Just to set the record straight, there’s no Fountain of Youth, no magic elixir to help you live longer and more abundantly. It’s pretty much all about what you’ve heard your whole life: get enough sleep, avoid unhealthy personal habits, eat a balanced diet, and, above all, exercise. Many of the changes necessary to live a long and happy life are simple ones; you just need to implement them. Here are some good ideas to get you headed in the right direction.

Daily Exercise         

Like it or not, exercise is the key to living longer and looking stronger. If you’re concerned about looking and feeling healthy, exercise is your best friend. It keeps your muscles taut, flexible, and strong, and much more. Exercise also improves eyesight, reduces cholesterol, and improves bone density, all of which are key factors in maintaining a healthy look. Exercise is so important that just 10 minutes a day can make a difference in your health and mental outlook. Get creative about working it into your daily routine by taking a walk around the block on your lunch hour. Close the door to your office and do jumping jacks or sit-ups for five minutes every day. Anything that gets your blood pumping and muscles moving is helpful.

Be a Discriminating Eater

We all know how easy it is to give in to convenience and make unhealthy food choices that are loaded in saturated and trans fats. Fast food is a major contributor to obesity and its many unhealthy manifestations, such as diabetes and high blood pressure. Be a discerning eater by choosing foods that are high in omega-3 fatty acids, which reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. Fish such as wild salmon and trout and ingesting meat and milk from grass-fed animals are excellent ways to incorporate omega-3 into your diet.

Chronic Ailments

Don’t ignore persistent ailments that make it difficult to feel good. Nausea, headaches, and anxiety may have many different causes but can potentially be treated with a cannabinoid that will help you function without pain or discomfort without becoming intoxicated. However, if you notice these ailments don’t go away after a period of time, it’s important to consult your doctor.

Sleep Time

If there’s one aspect of your health routine you don’t want to play around with, it’s sleep. Sleep deprivation can damage your body in many different ways and undermine your mental and emotional well-being. Getting seven to nine hours a night keeps your immune system in good shape, protecting you from illness and disease,  helps keep stress levels under control, and improves the ability to concentrate and function in a hectic environment without getting upset. Being well-rested makes it much easier to maintain a healthy perspective on life and on those little frustrations that jump up and bite you periodically during the course of a week.

If you’re having difficulty getting to sleep, try incorporating some healthy sleep-inducing strategies into your bedtime routine. Try meditating or doing yoga to relax your body and calm your thoughts, which can make it difficult to sleep when they’re racing through your brain at night. Be sure to maintain a space that’s conducive to sleeping by keeping all screens shut down, all lights out, and the room free of noise distractions.

A healthy lifestyle is a conscious decision to observe smart health strategies every day. That means paying close attention to what goes into your body and making time to keep your muscles, joints, and major organs in good shape through daily exercise. Maintaining good health is a mindful endeavor that can be achieved through smart choices and simple daily strategies.
